Naftali Bennett surprises: "I was exposed to the power of the Torah world"

The meeting of Habayit Hayehudi party held at noon (Monday) at the Knesset was directed under the inspiration of the visit of the Chairman of the party, Naftali Bennett, to Yeshivas Mir Chevron in the morning. Bennett opened the meeting with the congratulation wishes to friends celebrating their birthday today: MK Shuli Muallem, Moti Yogev and Eli Ben-Dahan.

Then he surprised the members of the party, when he said that for a week no meaningful negotiations are being held. "Habayit Hayehudi has time, but the people of Israel do not have time – they need a government," he clarified.

"We are stable, and we talk about the Netanyahu government as we talked in advance, therefore we did not deliberate opposite the president and voted for only one candidate. Nevertheless, the original Habayit Hayehudi is over a hundred years old - and we have principles and guidelines that are important to us."

Chairman of Habayit Hayehudi explained that the party has three emphases: economics, security of Israel and Torah study. "All three are important, true, the current situation in which the charedim do not serve cannot continue, but we have yet to maintain the Torah.

"I visited two important yeshivas in the charedi sector - Mir and Chevron," said Bennett, "and I was exposed to the power of the Torah world. You have no idea how the agenda of the person sitting and studying is difficult. The charedim are our brothers, they are not our rival or enemy."

Is it possible to conclude from Bennett's remarks that the change the charedi public wished for is really happened? Is the partnership with Yair Lapid broken? It is too early to tell.
