Rabbi against Lapid: "I did not publicize Din Rodef" • what yes? "If he continues - he's like an animal"

Yair Lapid argued that he has been ruled as 'Din Rodef' • Rabbi Eyal Amrami from Har Homa denies: "I did not publicize Din Rodef, things were distorted and were not brought fully •" What did he say? "We need to pray for him like all Jews, and if this continues there is no difference between him and the beast" • "whoever tries to harm the world of Torah the same thing will happen to him like to his father who fell"

Yesh Atid chairman, Yair Lapid, said on Friday morning, on his Facebook page that while they ruled him as "Din Rodef", he prefers to go this morning "to chase his daughter on family day at her school. It will not help them; we will not be ensnared into a discourse of hatred and anger. Shabbat Shalom".

Has a Rabbi publicized the Yesh Atid chairman as a Din Rodef?

Today the Rabbi in question, Rabbi Eyal Amrami, Sephardic rabbi at Har Homa in Jerusalem responded to the storm, following a report broadcast on Channel 1. His office issued the following response:

"The community of Rabbi Amrami totals eight hundred families who repented only due to seeing the humility of the rabbi, by his battle to bring the people of Israel closer to Torah and Judaism, with gentleness, civility, morality, law and legend, and hearing from him every day, and does all he can to bring peace between man and wife between man and his fellow man.

"The public appeal from across the spectrum to the Rabbi, from secular who have no connection to Judaism, through people who have any questions and advice. The Rabbi meets every person with gentleness."

Regarding the article by journalist Uri Revach, the Rabbi's office says: "Concerning the article published in the name of the reporter Uri Revach which supposedly compared Rabin's assassination to a Din Rodef - things were distorted and were not written in full.

"In answer to the interviewer what is the fate of anyone who harms the world of Torah – The Rabbi replied: - 'we should pray for him like for all Jews, and if it continues – there is no difference between him and the animals."

According to them, the rabbi added, "religious leaders do not take the law into their own hands and there is danger for such a person in heaven. We hope that no harms befall. We do not need security guards and whoever tries to harm the world of Torah will happen to him as to his father who fell..."

The Rabbi's office also said: "In answer to the question of the interviewer if it can be that there may be physical attempt to harm (kill G-d forbid) the rabbi replied: 'we hope that this will not happen and we don’t need something like that. We have already experienced such a murder of the prime minister; we do not need another one like that. But when one harms faith - the situation may be dangerous to the world of Torah.

"At the end the Rabbi called upon Yair Lapid, that we accept him with open arms to us as like any Jew."
