The police investigators, who investigated the circumstances of the fire which broke out on Thursday night at the Viznitz – Monsey Yeshiva in the village of Givers, discovered that the fire broke out as a result of an explosion in the electricity box of the Yeshiva.
At that time the Yeshiva building was empty, since the 260 Talmidim went to Monsey to be Menachem Avel at their Rebbe, the Viznitzer Rebbe Monsey, who is sitting Shiva on the death of his brother, the Viznitzer Rebbe zt"l.
No one was in the building, and the fire spread quickly and destroyed the entire building, including 46 dormitory rooms and the dining hall.
15 teams of firemen who were called, worked for many hours to extinguish the fire.
R' Dovid Berger, the Av Bayis in the Yeshiva, said that this is a real miracle. "If the fire would have broken out when the Yeshiva Bochurim were inside, a catastrophe could have taken place. The biggest miracle was that the firemen managed to prevent the fire from spreading towards the Beis Midrash, and towards the adjacent building."
According to the police commanding officer's instruction, the Bochurim were prevented from returning to the building.
The Askanim of Viznitz quickly organized at first a few shops in Monsey who donated clothes to the hundred Bochurim.
Berger adds, that "We had to find an alternative building for the continuation of studies at the Yeshiva until the end of the Zman. In the meantime, the Bochurim will learn at the Beis Midrash of Viznitz in Monsey. A considerable number of Bochurim went home for Shabbos, another part stayed in Monsey in alternative places which the Askanim organized."
"Regarding the damage which was caused, in the meantime the police officer has handed us 9 pairs of Tefillin which were a little damaged from the quantity of water. One pair was totally damaged without a possibility of repair", says R' Dovid sorrowfully.
