Anxiety in capital: terrorist attack in light rail. Soldier stabbed. Terrorist caught and admitted

A year after its activation, terror attacks have arrived at the light rail and have cast their fear on thousands of travelers in the new means of transport.

A youngster of 19 was stabbed this morning (Thursday) on the light rail in Yekutiel Adam st.in Pisgat Ze'ev, Jerusalem.

The girl was treated by the Ichud Hatzala volunteers on the scene, and was evacuated by the M.D.A. ambulance to the Sha'arei Tzedek hospital.

Dvir, an Ichud Hatzala volunteer, told Behadrey Haredim that the youngster was stabbed in her chest and hand, and her condition is defined as harsh. "When we arrived she had a low pulse, and we treated her until she was taken to hospital."

From a first investigation by the police, it stems that the girl was stabbed by a terrorist who escaped from the scene, most probably in the direction of the Arab village Shoafat, which is located in vicinity to the scene.

A force of Mishmar Hagvul caught a suspect who answers to the description of the terrorist at the Calandia barricade. The suspect was arrested and taken for continued investigation by the security forces.

According to the police it seems that the terrorist who stabbed sat on the light rail, and when it reached the stop, stabbed the girl and ran away. The railway movement towards the north of Jerusalem was halted.

The police claims that the Palestinian who was stopped as suspect of stabbing the girl, admitted the act.

The Mayor of Jerusalem, Nir Barkat, said in response to the stabbing attack: "I see the attempt to undermine life in Jerusalem in a very serious light. The routine of events in Jerusalem will continue as planned, and the light rail will continue to operate and to serve all residents of the city, both Jewish and Arab.

"I call upon the city residents to continue with their daily routine, and to show awareness to any event. Protecting the light rail is done in cooperation of the police and the security forces and according to their instructions. The guards of the rail are spread in the wagons and the different stops and do their rounds and activities throughout the track of the light rail to maintain the safety and security of the passengers."
