For the first time in history, the Turkish authorities allowed to light Chanukah candles in public - as was revealed tonight on Chabad website COL, after the permit - Istanbul municipality together with the Jewish community, held a grand lighting ceremony.

Thousands of Turkish citizens and residents of Istanbul, Jews and non-Jews, came in droves to participate in the colorful and invested event which spread the Chanukah light in the Turkish state, and filled the event square.

The event was attended by respected rabbis in Turkey, diplomats and ambassadors, representatives of the President and the Prime Minister, leaders and clerics and members of the municipality.

The picture shows the Chief Rabbi Yitzhak Haliva looking upon the Chabbad shaliach Rabbi Menachem Chitrik, while lighting the menorah.
