Each week Rabbi Schneider, chavrusa of Hagaon R' Aharon Leib Steinman, publishes a bulletin summary of issues which came up during the week and are of concern to the public.
This week, as we are entering Hanukkah 5776 - this week R' Aharon Leib was asked whether one who has little money and can either buy one or the other - a menorah of silver or silver candlesticks for Shabbat candles - what's better for him to buy?
Rav Steinman's chavrusa, Hagaon Rabbi Moshe Yehuda Schneider brings his response and the fact that he praised Jews seeking to do a mitzvah with their money. And for the question itself he said: "It seems that ner Shabbos is preferable, since one keeps the mitzvah throughout the year."
Regarding yeshiva students who have the minhag in their homes according to the opinion of the Mechaber (Beis Yosef), that only the Ba'al habayit lights the Hanukkah candles, the Rabbi was asked how should they act at the yeshiva, and said that it is proper for them to light candles, but they should not make the brocha themselves, but should ask someone else who acts according to the opinion of the Rama to be yotze in the brocha.
R' Aharon Leib also gave an advice for refuah sheleima to a father of a sick child - "he should learn Torah" and added that supporting Torah is included in that.
