Senior commentator on terrorism on Fox News in the United States was arrested on Thursday after being accused by the authorities for posing as a senior agent of the Central Intelligence Agency, the CIA, for decades.
Wayne Simmons, 62, who lives in Annapolis, Maryland, presented himself as one who served as a special operations officer at CIA between 1973 and 2000, according to a statement issued by the attorney general of Virginia.
According to suspicions, Simmons posed as a CIA agent to allegedly obtain security clearance to work in the field of military counseling. At one point he was even sent abroad to be used as a senior intelligence consultant for army officers.
Simmons is expected, among others, to face charges of defrauding the US government and providing false statements to the government.
Simmons stated he even managed to fool the media and appeared on Fox News as an analyst on terrorism and the former senior CIA since 2002. Fox News claim in response that Simmons appeared on the news channel as a guest only and was not paid.
