Customs workers of the Tax Authority at the 443 transition station, in cooperation with the Jerusalem district police prevented the entry of hundreds of fireworks, hidden in a vehicle on the way to the events from Modi'in to a dealer in East Jerusalem.
On the background of throwing stones and petrol bombs in the capital and on Road 443 as well as the use of fireworks toward and against policemen and Border Guard officers during disturbances in Jerusalem, yesterday (Sunday) afternoon workers of customs caught at the crossing in transit 443 (near Jerusalem) in collaboration with the police station in the Jerusalem District Court three crates, containing approximately 300 fireworks. The shipment was destined for a Palestinian dealer in East Jerusalem.
At about 14:00 pm a commercial vehicle arrived at the checkpoint from the direction of Modiin. The vehicle was transferred by military police officers for a checking of the employees of the Tax Authority in the crossing in order to ensure that the contents of the vehicle are as the documents of the shipment. Between the crates of equipment for events and parties, and the contents of which were the same as the declared tax invoice, three crates containing the said 300 fireworks were detected and they were omitted from the tax invoice.
The driver, a resident of Kfar Aqab in his 40s, was detained for questioning at Shafat station. At the same time, workers in the Transitions Tax Authority imposed on the Israeli dealer from Modiin a ransom due to the VAT law offense.
