Tonight (Saturday) at 18:45 a report of a fire in Shuafat was received. Four fire teams arrived on the scene, which observed that it was mostly a small fire before the arrival of troops.

While getting ready to finish off extinguishing, and investigate the circumstances surrounding the breaking out of fire, dozens of local residents began to congregate around the crews and attack them, pushed them violently, cursed, spat at and threatened their lives.

Two police vans arrived who tried to stop the attackers, but due to the large number of attackers and the threat to firefighting crews, it was decided on the withdrawal of the fire crews from the scene.

Firefighting and Rescue of Jerusalem consider the event very serious, the attack of fire crews severely time and time again, and sometimes several times a day. In some cases this is immediate mortal danger to the teams, and there were a number of attacks in which fire fighters were injured.

Fire and Rescue Command of Jerusalem decided to act using all means at their disposal to prevent such incidents from repeating themselves, and in order to prevent additional incidents in which rioters threaten the lives of fire fighters.

Fire and Rescue Command Jerusalem indicate that it is unthinkable that a situation becomes acceptable where there is a "fashion" of attacking fire fighters, whose whole aim is to save lives and property, occurs almost every day to the point of life-threatening without a proper and determined answer.
