Yaalon: "Region is undergoing unprecedented upheaval"

At a communion ceremony with the victims of the Navy this evening (Monday), Defense Minister Moshe (Bogie) Ya'alon said that the Middle East is experiencing "an unparalleled jolt the end of which we do not see," and referred to Hadar Goldin and Israelis held in Gaza, saying "We do what we can and turn every stone to bring them back."

Ya'alon spoke about the security situation in the Middle East, which "has experienced unprecedented turmoil the end of which we do not. This instability forces the State of Israel to meet with countries, entities and ruthless organizations armed with high-quality weapons and a murderous ideology".

He made it clear that, "we will act decisively and powerfully against those who seek our doom, but also responsibly and with consideration, just as we acted in foiling the terrorist cell which recently fired from Syria into Israel.

"The navy had, has and will have a part of this struggle, along the Israeli coast and away from them. When they emerge from the dark sea and surprise our enemies, the cruise fighters and combat supporters turn the navy into the long arm of the State of Israel and the Israel Defense Forces.

"Very few know how complex the activities of the corps and activities of its members is, and the few successes which are exposed - such as fighting of the corps in "Solid Rock" and its soldiers taking over terrorism boats with weapons meant for terrorist organizations – is just a drop in the ocean in view of the impressive, important and secret activity in the battle between battles.

"Now is the time to remember Staff Sergeant Oron Shaul and Major Hadar Goldin, of blessed memory, who fell not far from here, and we must bring them to Israel, as well as the Israeli citizens held in the Gaza Strip, the other missing soldiers and fallen soldiers whose resting place is unknown, many of them navy warriors.

"We are doing our best to turn every stone and return them to Israel or to reach a lead that will solve the mystery of their disappearance. This is our duty to our sons, this is our duty to the families."
