Despite the agreement on Thursday between Economy Minister Aryeh Deri and Transportation Minister Israel Katz, that the evacuation of Ma'ariv Bridge not be held on Shabbos in order to avoid unnecessary desecration of Shabbos, it turns out that the agreement was violated and evacuation works were held in place during Shabbos.

As recalled, on Thursday Deri minister's office released an annoucement, stating that Minister Deri protested to Katz and the Ministry of Transport criticizing the rubble clearance work carried out during Shabbos and consequently offending the feelings of Shabbos observers.

The notice added that, "after discussion and rearrangement, Minister Deri was told that it was agreed that the company conducting the eviction will finish before Shabbat in order to prevent desecration of Shabbat."

It should be noted that the company that operates the Ma'ariv Bridge, Denya Cibus, announced that the workers who will work on Shabbat will be non-Jews.

On Friday, the chief rabbi of Tel Aviv, Hagaon Harav Israel Meir Lau, told the media: "There is no life saving in clearing rubble of the bridge, since the area is closed anyway and the issue is money. Therefore there is no justification to employ the tools of clearance on Shabbat".

Transport Minister's Office has not yet issued a response.
