Victory to Shabbos in Hedera: in a vote was held this evening (Wednesday) at the city council on the mayor's proposal on behalf of Yesh Atid, Zvi Gendelman, for a bylaw amendment that will allow the desecration of Shabbat in the city, the proposal fell. In the voting religious and haredi delegates opposed and the result was nine against nine.
Chairman of United Torah Judaism in Hedera, Rabbi Ben Tzion Nordmann says tonight in response to Behadrey Haredim that "once again it was proved that unity wins, despite the difficulties and despite legitimate differences of opinion which arose, when it came to the test there was a traditional - religious united front which had stopped the attempt to enact the law."
Rabbi Nordmann added that "we have proven once again all those who need it that residents of Hadera are interested that the sanctity of the Sabbath will be preserved, and any attempt to undermine it encounters a brick wall."
As recalled, a few months ago the mayor Gendelman brought a similar amendment to the law, which would bring to violating Shabbos, but following the unity of religious and haredi city council members the vote fell.
