Continuing saga surrounding the state budget: the Ministry of Finance offered Yaakov Litzman to open savings accounts for children up to the age of 18, instead of returning benefits.
Recall, the Council of Torah Sages of Agudath Yisrael, told Deputy Minister Yaakov Litzman not to give up on the child allowance and returning them retroactively, contrary to the position of the Ministry of Finance.
In recent days, Treasury officials have suggested to Deputy Minister Litzman a compromise in an attempt to reach an understanding.
According to the proposal, the state will develop a savings plan for children up to age 18, in which funds will be deposited, which were supposed to be given to children as part of raising pensions.
The compromise proposal would allow the state to meet obligations to inform the coalition without paying the money and without increasing the deficit.
The deputy minister's office of Litzman told behadrey haredim: "Treasury proposal is currently under discussion and their position has not yet been finalized. Issue will be brought before the Council of Torah Sages for their decision.
Tomorrow (Monday) meetings with finance officials are scheduled to discuss the details of the proposal.
Opposition chairman Yitzhak Herzog responded to reports: "Once again the Prime Minister understands that assurances on the basis of which he built his coalition failed both acrobatics and cannot keep looking for other people's ideas to implement.
"I am happy the treasury is ready to go with the program and the law I initiated in cooperation with a friend of those years he rejects it again and again. Immediately upon the opening of the next session we will bring the bill along with all members of the faction who signed him to a vote and we will see how they Prime Minister, Minister of Finance and members of the coalition will vote.
