The new Lapid? Kahlon: "public transportation on Shabbat is a social issue"

After Moshe Kahlon, chairman of Kulanu party, signed a coalition agreement with the Likud Party on Wednesday, he goes tonight (Saturday) with surprising and outrageous statement during an interview to News 2, and argues that transportation on Shabbat is something right.

During the interview with Rina Matzliah, on the program 'Meet the Press', the chairman of Kulanu was asked about the issue of public transportation on Shabbat, something that he claimed in the past is a social problem, and whether he will work on this issue in his present term.

"The summary of this coalition is talking about the status quo on these issues," said Kahlon. "I think it's true, and I said it's true, and I said that this is a social issue. That whoever needs public transportation on Shabbat is a person who has no money to buy a car, and I don't want him to travel in a taxi to see his grandson. This is a social issue. I am a traditional person and it's not fair I can drive my car to go to my daughter and tell a person who has no money, to take a taxi at 200 shekels."

A member of Torah Judaism responded this evening talking with Behadrey Haredim to Kahlon's words, and said: "We will be working in full cooperation with the Kulanu party which comes to help people make ends meet and deal with the housing crisis. Kahlon is not known as one who tramples the honor of Shabbos, and so we believe that respect for Shabbos will not be harmed by the new government".

As recalled, on Wednesday evening United Torah Judaism and Kulanu signed a coalition agreement with the Likud Party.
