A 53-year-old Jew was attacked on Shabbos as he left the synagogue in the Saint-Ouen neighborhood in northern Paris.

According to the newspaper "Le Parisien", as the man left the synagogue, a young man of about 25 followed him, called him a "dirty Jew", kicked him and caused him injury. Two other young men joined the attacker, spat on him and threatened him with a knife.

Police are trying to locate the suspects.

The National Bureau of Monitoring anti-Semitism (BNVCA) condemned the attack, and reported that "the attackers fled after passers-by protested against them. The attackers left the Jew lying on the ground wounded."

The Jew, a supermarket owner, suffered mainly of bruises and hard blows and did not require medical treatment.

The number of anti-Semitic attacks in France in 2014 doubled with 851 attacks and threats, compared to 423 cases in 2013. During 2014, France was the country with the most anti-Semitic incidents in the world.
