Hundreds of protesters took to Route 1 corner of Shivtei Yisrael in Jerusalem this evening, following a trial that took place this morning of a deserter who was sentenced to 14 days in detention in a military prison.
During the evacuation of demonstrators two policemen were injured by stones thrown at them, and they were evacuated to the hospital in a mild condition. Following the wounding more police were sent and cleared the demonstrators from Route 1 into Shomrei Emunim.
Shivtei Yisrael Street is now closed to traffic because of cans on fire and a refrigerator placed on the road.
The police arrested one suspect in respect of throwing stones.
At the same time, several dozen haredim lit garbage tins on Nehar Hayarden Street in Beit Shemesh, and are standing on the roadside. The road is open to traffic. A police force is on the scene.
The demonstration was held after yesterday a yeshiva student who belongs to the Eida Hareidis, who came to the recruiting office in Jerusalem, was arrested. According to reports, the boy tried to get an exemption from military service for emotional reasons, and something went wrong.
