After recommending to the President Reuven Rivlin to cast the formation of the government on Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu, United Torah Judaism MKs explained their positions.
Faction chairman MK Yaakov Litzman said: "The United Torah Judaism faction was with the President, we recommended to place the assembly on the current Israeli Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu. We emphasized the social issues, we emphasized the burning issues on the agenda, to change what was in the current term, which was not so social, it was anti-social. We stressed that we are ready in the next government, we will demand things in the coalition agreement as all parties demand.
"The way it seems, there is a possibility to form a government of 67 when we are in it. There is a possibility that the government will outlive four years and not as it was now, for there will be no intrigues as in the previous term."
In relation to Kahlon's request to receive the position of chairman of the Finance Committee, Litzmann said: "Why change good horses who helped the entire public, prevented layoffs in factories, why suddenly change it. I understand that the new finance minister will hold discussions with Rabbi Gafni and in one meeting all the barriers will be lowered."
Litzmann also discussed the possibility to sit down with Lapid, "I said already once the answer is: no. Mr. Lapid was a man who humiliated us, beat us, took us below the poverty line, tens of thousands of families, there is no reason for us to be friends. It's just plain and there is no reason to explain it."
Gafni also explained why they recommended Netanyahu: "Regarding the recommendation to the president, there was no hesitation, because the nation has spoken. There is an unequivocal decision in Torah Judaism, not to replace the people."
"Both the Ministry of Health and the Finance Committee, are no picnic. One has to work hard by day and night. People think we give this job to someone and he will produce fruit, one has to work hard. Since we are a social party we are ready to work hard for the people. Unfortunately during the last term, factories were closed, plants that during my time did not close down because I stood in front of the government and asked them to leave them. We in United Torah Judaism also informed the President that we are willing to work hard for all the people. We saw this during this election campaign, many secular votes that we did not receive in the past, we have received feedback from the non-religious public, and we intend to implement what the public told us."
MK Meir Porush spoke against a unity government, "Please take pity on our dignity. This was a hard election campaign. The people decided. It was not so obvious that Netanyahu will get the mandate. After the people decided and gave it to Netanyahu, to try to say that there is an idea of a unity government?! This has been clarified for us. These are the results, and this is what the people wanted, we recommended Netanyahu."
