At the end of the police investigation and ISA, the detention of the 17 year old minor terrorist, resident of Bir Zeit, the suspect in a stabbing attack in Jerusalem at the IDF Square two and a half weeks ago, was extended.

According to facts in the indictment, on 3rd Adar at about 17:30pm, the suspect arrived at the IDF Square from the Old City. While standing at the crosswalk along with others, he pulled out a knife which he had in his possession, and stabbed Avraham Goldschmidt who was standing next to him. The terrorist tried to stab him again while Goldsmith defended himself by the tallis and tefillin bag he was holding.

Jerusalem Mayor Nir Barkat, who was riding in his car along with the security guard and his aides, noticed the commotion in place, got out of the car when the guard aimed his gun toward the suspect who threw the knife. Barkat came close to the terrorist and knocked him to the ground. At this time police arrived and arrested and handcuffed the terrorist.

The investigation was conducted at the Special Operations Squad at the Jerusalem Central Unit in cooperation with GSS. During the investigation, the suspect was seen in security cameras in the Old City when he arrived around the time of the incident at David Street in the Old City, came to a counter and stole a knife as he put the knife in his shirt sleeve.

His investigation shows that the suspect, a 17 year old minor Arab resident of Bir Zeit, admitted the charges against him, saying that that day he came from his home to the Damascus Gate in Jerusalem, he claimed he wanted to stab the Jew because he "hates religious Jews."

He also said under questioning that took part in the events of riots against security forces in his area of Bir Zeit, including throwing stones and Molotov cocktails thrown against the security forces.
