Attack in Jerusalem: a terrorist tried to run over three policewomen officers standing on the sidewalk on Shimon Hatzadik Street in Jerusalem, near the light rail station. The terrorist was shot in the back, three police officers were seriously injured.

The terrorist was neutralized by a light rail guard, preliminary information indicates that the terrorist is a resident of East Jerusalem.

After questioning the incident shows that a private car came from the direction of Sachs intersection towards Yehudai base, then veered off the road and onto the sidewalk while running over five people, including four members of the security forces. The car continued driving and shots were fired at him from the gateway of the Border Police camp.

A border policeman and a civilian security guard at the entrance to the Yehudai base had identified the event, sought to touch and fired at the terrorist. The terrorist managed to get out of the car which stopped, while holding a butcher knife, tried to attack the warrior and the guard who continued to fire at him, injuring him badly.

District Commander Major General Moshe (Chico) Edri praised the activities of the Border Guard officer and security guard and pointed out that "the rapid and determined response stopped the attack with the start and prevented the continued harming of innocent", he also said that "Jerusalem Police is prepared with reinforcements and will respond quickly to any event as done today and the recent attacks. We will continue preparations in order to allow the continuation of the events of Purim safely".

MDA spokesman Zaki Heller said that "MDA paramedics gave medical treatment to a total of 7 casualties, of whom a man of about 51 and 6 young women of 20, including 3 in a light to medium condition, 2 light, 2 anxiety, and evacuated them by MDA ambulances to Hadassah Ein Kerem Hospital (1), Hadassah Mount Scopus (3) and Sha'arei Tzedek (3). In addition MDA teams treated the offending man, in his twenties, in critical condition with gunshot wounds and took him to the hospital. There are no other casualties on the scene."

Ichud Hatzala spokesperson said that "Ichud Hatzala volunteers are caring for 3 victims who are conscious and 2 in light condition, as it seems due to an accident and stabbing at the light rail station on the corner of Shimon Hatzadik and Route 1 in Jerusalem, the incident is under examination of the Israeli police."

Nahum Bernstein, deputy head of the Jerusalem branch of United Hatzala said: "When I arrived I came across two scenes of incidents, a cyclist hit by a car who continued riding, and 4 more casualties of which a man and 3 women who were also hit by the car at the entrance to the Border Police base, along with other volunteers of the motorcycle unit of United Hatzala we provided primary health care to casualties, large police forces operated in the area to investigate the circumstances of the event, at this stage it seems of a nationalist nature".

Oren Brill, MDA paramedic who arrived on the scene in an MDA Intensive Care Unit, and Shmulik Alfassi MDA paramedic, said: "On the road and on the sidewalk lay 5 conscious casualties, one man of about 50 injured by the vehicle while riding a bicycle, we conducted an initial screening of the wounded on the scene, gave primary health care and evacuated them to hospital when their condition is defined mild to moderate, they suffered bruises and injuries in the limbs and back, three young women suffering from anxiety attacks were treated by us and taken for further treatment in a hospital. At a distance of about 100 meters of the injured, next to a car was laying a man in his early twenties with gunshot wounds, we gave him treatment on the scene and evacuated him to hospital in serious condition."

'Yachad' Party chairman MK Eli Yishai commented: "We must restore deterrence and a sense of security to the citizens of the State of Israel. The stoning attacks at the light rail which occur daily and the run over attack this morning require us to change approach. It was proved once again that terrorism must be dealt with an iron hand.

"Residents of the State of Israel as a whole and especially Jerusalem are not satisfied with concrete barriers. There is no difference between a run over attack or stoning or Molotov cocktails, all aim to bring to the murder of Jews. One should revoke the citizenship of the various terrorists".
