כחלק ממאמץ ההגנה, מבצעים כוחות צה"ל פעילות הגנתית הכוללת מארבי תצפית, סיורים ופעולות יזומות במרחב הגבול במרחבים צמודי גדר, על מנת לחזק את ההגנה והסרת איום באופן מיידי. כל זאת לצד מאמץ איסוף משולב, הן מהאוויר והן מהיבשה, אשר מצוי במוכנות ודריכות גבוהה.
במקביל, כוחות צה"ל מבצעים אימונים להגברת כשירות הכוחות וכן ישנן תוכניות מבצעיות רחבות אשר מתוקפות כל עת בהתאם וערוכות לביצוע ומימוש מיידי.
כחלק ממאמץ ההתקפה, הכוחות מבצעים פעילות התקפית משמעותית במרחב הגבול - חיסלו מחבלים והשמידו תשתיות טרור של ארגון הטרור חיזבאללה באמצעות סגירת מעגלי אש ומודיעין מהירים. בפיקוד הצפון פועלים בשיתוף פעולה הדוק עם יחידות ממגוון הזרועות. חיל האוויר, וכוחות ארטילריה, אש ועוצבת "הקומנדו" נמצאים בדריכות גבוהה כדי לתת תגובה מיידית והתקפית בשטח לבנון לכל תקיפה של חיזבאללה.
